What this award rewards
The Golden Geeks are the purely democratic, international awards of the board game world. They are run by BoardGameGeek (BGG), the largest board game database and player community on the internet, based in the United States. There is no expert jury here: the hundreds of thousands of users registered on the platform nominate and then elect the winners through a ranked voting system (Condorcet method). A true barometer of worldwide "Gamer" community trends, this award honours games released the previous year. Voting opens in spring, and the results are announced purely online during the month of May.
